What To Expect When Attending Newborn Circumcision

By Richard Rogers

It is the joy of each parent to be able to give birth to a healthy child. Throughout their pregnancy, they are advised on how to eat and what to expect after nine months. Some prefer their children to remain anonymous while others would like to go for a scan to verify the gender of the baby. Those who find that they will be expecting a baby boy, may need to take a lot of factors into consideration once the baby is born. One of the main factors is newborn circumcision.

The practice was started a long time ago especially during the biblical times. It was necessary for boy children who had attained the age of 8 days. Those who went through the knife were considered clean as compared to those who did not. The practice was quite common in the olden days and that has not changed even in the present.

Whether it is a personal decision or following religious doctrines, a person can choose to attend when the procedure is going on. Most religious ideologies stress on going for the cut to promote cleanliness. However, health reasons reveal that the foreskin harbors a lot of pathogens. In fact they are being encouraged to go to hospital.

The practice simply involves surgical cut of the foreskin that covers the head of a penis. Initially, male children are born with these foreskins. They must be cut to expose the head. Depending on how fast a person can heal, the wound may take a few days.

In the United States alone, it is believed that about 55% to 65% of baby boys go through the cut. It does not end there. Areas especially in the western region of the country have records of the lowest cases. On the other hand, North Central America has recorded the highest number of cases that were associated to the practice. Even though most people are being enlightened on the health benefits, others in Asia, Europe, Southern America and Central America still do not practice it.

It is for the well being of the both the client and medical practitioner that they should go through the operation manual together. That way, the parent is able to know risks involved and cannot hold the doctor liable for any misgivings. This is done to rule out any discrepancies during the operation.

There are some special reasons that may hinder a practitioner from performing the procedure. In case the baby has deformities in their penis or has been born prematurely, the operation cannot take place. These instances call for delay in procedure since it can prove to be fatal if they force their ways through.

This operation has a lot of pros that outweigh the cons. First, a circumcised baby is less likely to contract urinary tract illnesses. In addition, a study conducted in some countries reveal that people who did not have their foreskins cut were more likely to contract HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Hence the reason as to why all males are required to go for the cut to be on the safe side.
