Baby Skin Care Routines - The Ones You Need To Do

By Bert Carpio

Your baby's skin is incredibly vulnerable so it is important for parents to learn as much as they can about baby skin care. Depending on your local area, the biggest threat to your baby's skin might be cold weather, sunlight or even wind. Even if you don't have adverse weather conditions, you still need to clean and moisturize your son or daughter's skin. Let's look at some crucial baby skin care tips all parents should keep in mind.

Your baby's skin also includes their lips! Don't forget that! It is important that you use liberal amounts of lip balm on your baby's lips to protect them from the sun and cold. The wind, sun, and also bitter cold can chap your babies' lips in just moments. To make sure that this does not happen, use petroleum jelly or lip balm to stop this from occurring. Of course, you should also avoid exposing your baby to harsh elements as much as possible, but during cold weather there is the need for additional protection.

If your baby's rash persists or if it starts to seem inflamed, you need to see the pediatrician as soon as you can. For the most part, diaper rash clears up by itself. Eczema is a very common skin problem for babies. These appear as red, scaly skin, and it can cause itching. These are one of the reasons you need to keep your baby's fingernails short--so that there won't be any scratching and worsening of the condition. Eczema caused by all sorts of things like changes in weather conditions, harsh chemical contact or even not moisturizing well enough. Using the water that is too hot or too cold can cause the condition as well so only use lukewarm water when you bathe your baby. Using a gentle moisturizer each day can also help keep eczema away. Your baby's clothing should also be loose fitting and comfortable. If your baby's eczema doesn't go away on its own, you should make an appointment with your pediatrician.

These are the best times of day for a massage and it may also promote a good night's sleep for your baby. Massage may not be something that you are completely sure about, so you may need some time to perfect your touch. It recommended that you begin by massaging their feet and working your way up from there. All people, babies as well, react differently to massage; so your massage session will hinge the reaction you get from your baby.

Some parents will notice a red patch on their baby's head and wonder where it came. These are a condition called cradle cap, and it's incredibly common for very young infants. Sometimes it's yellowish and crusty. It caused by an overproduction of oil in the glands of the baby, and it is not unlike the dandruff that an adult will experience. This condition usually goes away on its own and is not serious. Rubbing an almond oil or an olive oil on the head of the baby can help clear it up a lot faster than just leaving it alone.

If you want to keep your baby's skin as comfortable as it can be, these baby skin care tips can be quite helpful. Don't forget, though, that some babies experience temporary difficulties like diaper rash--even when you take copious precautions against it. If you take care to use the best skin care routines possible, though, and follow the advice of your pediatrician, you should keep these problems to a minimum.
